Woodpeckers, Woodpeckers, … – Woodpeckers Everywhere

Funny how this played out. The last time I saw a woodpecker was back in April, 2014. This weekend I went to Park Mont-Royal and Park Angrignon and I saw not only one but 5 different individuals belonging to three different species. I was able to watch a couple of Pileated Woodpeckers digging a hole which may turn out to be a nest later and then feeding off trees nearby.

I am not 100% sure about the Downy and Hairy Woodpecker IDs. The dark spots on the white wings are not very dominant but the beak is shorter as expected for a Downy, seen in Park Mont-Royal. The Hairy Woodpecker I saw in Park Angrignon has definitively a longer beak. I hope that I will see soon more woodpeckers and to improve my skills in distinguishing between Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers.
