Lucky Opportunity

Back in December, while taking a break from work, I was standing in front of the balcony door and watching the road below when I noticed a bird, unfamiliar to me, very close.

Merlin Falcon

Camera: Nikon Z6
Lense: Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8
Exposure Time: 1/1600
Focal Length: 200mm
F Number: f/2.8
ISO: 560

It turns out to be a Merlin Falcon, a bird of prey similar in appearance to the Peregrine Falcon. Having my camera always ready to shoot, I was able to take some shots and to record a short clip while the bird not noticing me continues to feed on its prey.

Originally, I gave this bird the ID of a Peregrine Falcon, prepared the video and uploaded it to YouTube. Thanks to a friendly follower, I have been informed though, I have been noticed that this species is a Merlin Falcon though. I had to re-edit the clip and changed title and description.

A reminder that I should stick with the workflow publishing first a photo in iNaturalist and wait for the community to confirm the taxonomy.
